Description
rclone versions before v1.75.0 do not properly sanitize IBM IAM bearer tokens and SSE-C encryption keys during S3 redirect callbacks. This flaw allows credentials to be preserved across scheme or host changes, enabling attackers who can observe network traffic from a trusted endpoint to capture reusable IBM IAM tokens or SSE-C keys. The vulnerability has a medium severity with a CVSS score of 5.3.

Technical Analysis
rclone before version 1.75.0 fails to sanitize IBM IAM bearer tokens and SSE-C encryption keys during S3 redirect callbacks. This failure allows credentials to be preserved when there are scheme (HTTPS to HTTP) or host changes during redirects. Attackers able to observe network traffic from a trusted endpoint can capture reusable IBM IAM tokens on same-host HTTPS-to-HTTP downgrades or SSE-C keys on cross-origin redirects, potentially allowing unauthorized access to protected S3 objects.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability allows attackers who can monitor network traffic from a trusted endpoint to capture sensitive IBM IAM bearer tokens or SSE-C encryption keys during redirect callbacks. This can lead to unauthorized access to protected S3 objects. The impact is limited to credential exposure without direct integrity or availability impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in rclone version 1.75.0. Users should upgrade to version 1.75.0 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No vendor advisory was provided to indicate alternative mitigations or that the issue is already mitigated.
