Description
rclone versions before v1.75.0 have a vulnerability where they fail to reject transport downgrades during redirect handling. This flaw allows Basic authorization and Cookie headers to be replayed over plaintext HTTP after HTTPS-to-HTTP redirects on the same host. An attacker positioned on the network path can capture and reuse these credentials to perform WebDAV operations with the compromised account's permissions.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability in rclone before version 1.75.0 involves improper handling of transport downgrades in HTTP redirects. Specifically, when an HTTPS request is redirected to HTTP on the same host, rclone does not reject this downgrade and continues to send sensitive headers such as Basic authorization and Cookies over an unencrypted connection. This behavior enables an on-path attacker to intercept these headers during the plaintext HTTP hop and reuse the credentials to perform unauthorized WebDAV operations with the victim's privileges.
Potential Impact
An on-path attacker can capture Basic authorization and Cookie headers due to the failure to reject HTTPS-to-HTTP redirects, leading to credential exposure. The attacker can then reuse these credentials to perform WebDAV operations with the compromised account's permissions. This results in confidentiality loss of credentials and unauthorized access to WebDAV resources. There is no indication of integrity or availability impact.
Mitigation Recommendations
A fix is available in rclone version 1.75.0 that addresses this vulnerability by properly rejecting transport downgrades in redirect handling. Users should upgrade to version 1.75.0 or later to remediate this issue.
