Recently lost my remote job of five years. Do I have hope of finding another one, or do I need to relocate somewhere to work onsite?

I'm 25 and a few months ago I was let go from my remote security analyst role at a rather well known and prestigious company where I performed threat hunting, triage, and intervention for high-risk clients including financial institutions, foreign & domestic government agencies, and non-profits. I have substantial savings but need to start looking for a new job.

The problem is that I desperately want to keep living in the blue ridge mountains and was coming close to buying a house. I really do not want to have to move to live near a major city.. but am starting to think that may be necessary unless I want to leave tech and work at Walmart or something.

I have over five years of experience, here's my resume.

Things I do not have:

  • Scripting or programming experience
  • A solid professional network or references

I don't know if I'm going to be able to find work remotely again and I need to decide before renewing my lease here. I was making about $160,000 a year when you factor in RSUs, but I'd happily work for $60,000 if it meant I could work from home in a state of my choosing.

Do I bother trying for remote work or do I need to pack up and go live near a tech center?
