AI-suggested
Red Hat has released updated dracut packages that fix these vulnerabilities and the related boot issue. Users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Extended Lifecycle Support should apply the provided updates promptly to remediate these security issues. Detailed update instructions are available in the Red Hat advisory at https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patches.
Description
Red Hat has issued a security advisory for the dracut package, which is responsible for generating the initial RAM filesystem (initramfs) used during system boot. The advisory addresses two critical vulnerabilities allowing root code execution: one via DHCP options command injection (CVE-2026-6893) and another via an unescaped error message in an emergency hook script (CVE-2026-15816). Additionally, a bug fix prevents the system from becoming unbootable without manual intervention. These issues affect Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 Extended Lifecycle Support versions and have been fixed in updated dracut packages.
