AI-suggested
Red Hat has released security updates for dracut in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 Extended Update Support that address these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the updates as described in the Red Hat advisory (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258) to remediate these issues. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patches.
Description
Two security vulnerabilities in the dracut package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9.6 Extended Update Support allow for root code execution. One vulnerability (CVE-2026-6893) involves command injection via DHCP options, and the other (CVE-2026-15816) involves root code execution through an unescaped error message written to a sourced emergency hook script. These vulnerabilities affect the initramfs generator infrastructure used during system boot.
