Red Hat has released updated dracut packages that address these vulnerabilities. Users of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 Extended Life Cycle Long Life and AUS versions should apply the security update as detailed in Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:69118. Refer to https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 for update instructions. No alternative mitigations are indicated; applying the official patch is required.
Description
Multiple vulnerabilities in the dracut package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 allow for root code execution. These include command injection via DHCP options and an unescaped error message vulnerability in an emergency hook script. The dracut package is responsible for generating the initial RAM filesystem used during system boot. Red Hat has released security updates addressing these issues.
