What to do

AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated fence-agents packages that address this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update for fence-agents version 4.2.1-112.el8_8.16 or later as provided in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 update services. Refer to the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:2221 and the linked article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 for detailed update instructions. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

A denial of service vulnerability exists in the pyasn1 component used by the fence-agents packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8. The flaw is caused by memory exhaustion triggered by a malformed RELATIVE-OID. Fence-agents provide scripts for remote power management in clusters, allowing failed nodes to be restarted or removed. This vulnerability could disrupt cluster operations by exhausting memory resources. Red Hat has issued an important security update addressing this issue in fence-agents version 4.2.1-112.el8_8.16 for multiple Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 variants.
