What to do
AI-suggested
Red Hat has released an updated fence-agents package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4 that addresses this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update as described in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2026:2483) to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A denial of service vulnerability (CVE-2026-23490) exists in the pyasn1 component used by the fence-agents packages in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.4. The flaw is caused by memory exhaustion triggered by a malformed RELATIVE-OID. Fence-agents provide scripts for remote power management in cluster environments, allowing failed or unreachable nodes to be forcibly restarted and removed from clusters. Red Hat has issued a security update to address this issue.
