Red Hat has released updated Flatpak packages as part of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 Extended Update Support to fix this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update as described in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2024:3962) and the referenced article (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258) to remediate the issue. Since a fix is available, applying the official patch is the recommended mitigation.
Description
A security vulnerability (CVE-2024-32462) in Flatpak allows sandbox escape via the RequestBackground portal. Flatpak is used for building, distributing, and running sandboxed desktop applications on Linux. Red Hat has issued an important security update addressing this issue in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 Extended Update Support. The vulnerability could allow an attacker to break out of the sandbox environment, potentially leading to unauthorized access or actions outside the intended sandbox restrictions.
