Red Hat has released updated FreeType packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 to fix this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update as described in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2025:3421) and the referenced article (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258) to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
Description
A security vulnerability (CVE-2025-27363) in FreeType, a font engine used to load and render fonts, allows an out-of-bounds (OOB) write when parsing font subglyph structures related to TrueType GX and variable font files. This flaw could potentially lead to memory corruption. Red Hat has issued an important security update for FreeType in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 to address this issue.
