AI-suggested

Red Hat recommends disabling the $data feature if it is not required by the application. If $data must be used, strict validation of input fields referenced by the pattern keyword should be implemented to ensure only expected and safe characters are allowed. Users should follow Red Hat Satellite documentation for installation and configuration guidance.

Description

CVE-2025-69873 is a vulnerability in the ajv library used by Red Hat Lightspeed in Satellite. When the $data option is enabled, the pattern keyword value is passed directly to the JavaScript RegExp() constructor without sufficient validation. This allows an attacker to supply a malicious regular expression that triggers a Regular Expression Denial of Service (ReDoS), causing the application to become unresponsive. Exploitation requires the $data option to be enabled and the ability to send crafted input. A small payload can cause significant delays in execution, leading to denial of service. Red Hat has made a new container image generally available but has not released a fix for this vulnerability yet.
