What to do
AI-suggested
Red Hat has released an updated java-17-openjdk package that addresses these security vulnerabilities and the related bug. Users should apply the update as provided by Red Hat for their Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 systems. After applying the update, all running OpenJDK Java instances must be restarted to ensure the fixes take effect. Refer to the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2024:0242 and the linked article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258 for detailed update instructions.
Description
Red Hat has issued an important security update for the java-17-openjdk packages, addressing multiple vulnerabilities in OpenJDK 17. These include array out-of-bounds access, incorrect ZIP file handling, RSA padding and timing side-channel issues in TLS, JVM class file verifier flaws, range check loop optimization problems, and logging of private keys. The update also fixes a bug related to Transparent Huge Pages causing excessive memory usage in multithreaded Java applications. The update requires restarting all running OpenJDK Java instances to take effect.
