What to do
AI-suggested
A security update for java-1.8.0-openjdk is available from Red Hat. Users should apply the update as detailed in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2024:0228 and restart all running OpenJDK Java instances to ensure the fixes take effect. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.
Description
Red Hat has issued a security update for the java-1.8.0-openjdk packages, which provide the OpenJDK 8 Java Runtime Environment and Software Development Kit. The update addresses multiple vulnerabilities including an array out-of-bounds access in the C1 compiler, RSA padding and timing side-channel issues in TLS, JVM class file verifier flaws allowing unverified bytecode execution, range check loop optimization problems, arbitrary Java code execution in Nashorn, and logging of digital signature private keys. These vulnerabilities collectively pose risks such as arbitrary code execution and information leakage. The update is rated as important by Red Hat and requires restarting all running OpenJDK Java instances to take effect.
