Description

Multicluster engine for Kubernetes v2.4.9 images Multicluster engine for Kubernetes provides the foundational components that are necessary for the centralized management of multiple Kubernetes-based clusters across data centers, public clouds, and private clouds. You can use the engine to create new Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform clusters or to bring existing Kubernetes-based clusters under management by importing them. After the clusters are managed, you can use the APIs that are provided by the engine to distribute configuration based on placement policy. Security fixes * golang-jwt/jwt: jwt-go allows excessive memory allocation during header parsing (CVE-2025-30204) * golang.org/x/oauth2/jws: Unexpected memory consumption during token parsing in golang.org/x/oauth2/jws (CVE-2025-22868)

Technical Analysis

The Multicluster Engine for Kubernetes versions from 2.4.0 up to but not including 2.4.9 are affected by vulnerabilities involving excessive memory allocation and unexpected memory consumption during parsing of JWT headers and OAuth2 tokens, specifically CVE-2025-30204 and CVE-2025-22868. These vulnerabilities could lead to resource exhaustion. Red Hat has released version 2.4.9 which includes fixes for these issues. The engine is used to centrally manage Kubernetes clusters across data centers and clouds, enabling cluster creation and import with configuration distribution via APIs. The vendor advisory provides detailed patch information and upgrade instructions.

Potential Impact

The vulnerabilities allow excessive memory allocation during JWT header parsing and unexpected memory consumption during OAuth2 token parsing, potentially leading to denial of service conditions due to resource exhaustion. However, Red Hat rates the security impact as low. There are no known active exploits in the wild for these vulnerabilities at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released Multicluster Engine for Kubernetes version 2.4.9 which addresses these vulnerabilities. Users should upgrade affected versions (>=2.4.0 <2.4.9) to 2.4.9 following the official Red Hat documentation for installation and upgrade. No additional mitigation actions are indicated by the vendor.
