What to do

AI-suggested

No mitigation that meets Red Hat's criteria for ease of use, applicability, and stability is currently available. Red Hat is pursuing fixes for affected mappings. Users should monitor Red Hat advisories for updates and consider upgrading to fixed versions once available. The new rhceph-9.0 container image is available but does not explicitly address this vulnerability.

Description

A vulnerability (CVE-2024-55565) was found in the nanoid library used in Red Hat products including Red Hat Ceph Storage. The flaw causes improper handling of fractional (non-integer) input values, leading to infinite loops in browser environments and zeroed output or buffer allocation failures in Node.js. This can impair system availability. Red Hat rates the impact as moderate with a CVSS score of 6.5, primarily affecting availability. A new container image rhceph-9.0 based on Ceph 9.0 and ubi9 base image has been released, but no specific fix for this vulnerability is currently provided in the advisory.
