What to do

AI-suggested

Red Hat has released security updates for Performance Co-Pilot in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 to address these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the updates as described in Red Hat advisory RHSA-2024:6843 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Since official fixes are available, applying these patches is the recommended mitigation. No additional vendor advisories indicate that no action is required or that the issues are already mitigated.

Description

Two security vulnerabilities have been identified in Performance Co-Pilot (PCP), a suite of tools for system-level performance measurement analysis. The first vulnerability (CVE-2024-45770) involves a symlink attack in the pmpost component that allows escalation of PCP privileges to the root user. The second vulnerability (CVE-2024-45769) involves heap corruption in the pmcd component through metric pmstore operations. Red Hat has issued an important security advisory with updates addressing these issues for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 variants.
