Red Hat has released updated pcs packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 variants that fix the CVE-2024-49761 vulnerability. Users should apply these official updates as described in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2025:12499 and the referenced update article (https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258) to remediate the issue. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the vendor-provided patch.
Description
A ReDoS (Regular Expression Denial of Service) vulnerability (CVE-2024-49761) was identified in the rexml component used by the pcs packages, which provide command-line configuration for Pacemaker and Corosync utilities in Red Hat Enterprise Linux High Availability. The vulnerability has been rated as moderate severity by Red Hat Product Security. An update addressing this issue is available for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.8 variants, including Update Services for SAP Solutions and Telecommunications Update Service. The update mitigates the risk by fixing the underlying rexml vulnerability.
