AI-suggested
Red Hat has released updated python3 packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8 that address these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the provided security update as detailed in the Red Hat advisory (RHSA-2025:10128) to remediate these issues. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official update.
Description
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been identified in the Python 3 tarfile module used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8. These include bypasses of extraction filters allowing modification of file metadata and creation of symlinks outside the intended extraction directory, arbitrary writes via a realpath overflow, and extraction of filtered members when errorlevel=0. These issues could allow an attacker to write or link files outside the extraction directory, potentially leading to unauthorized file system modifications.
