AI-suggested
Red Hat has released an updated python3 package for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 that addresses these vulnerabilities. Users should apply the official security update as detailed in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2025:10484 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Applying this update will remediate the issues. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor.
Description
Multiple security vulnerabilities have been identified in the Python 3 tarfile module used in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6. These issues include bypassing extraction filters to modify file metadata or create symlinks outside the intended extraction directory, arbitrary writes via a realpath overflow, and extraction of filtered members under certain error conditions. These flaws could allow an attacker to write or link files outside of the extraction directory, potentially leading to unauthorized file modifications.
