What to do

AI-suggested

Users should avoid direct use of the low-level CRYPTO_ocb128_encrypt() and CRYPTO_ocb128_decrypt() functions with non-block-aligned lengths on hardware-accelerated builds. Typical usage of OpenSSL via higher-level EVP APIs and TLS protocols remains safe. Monitor Red Hat advisories for future updates.

Description

A vulnerability exists in OpenSSL's low-level OCB encryption/decryption functions when used with hardware acceleration and non-block-aligned message lengths. This flaw can expose 1-15 trailing bytes of a message in cleartext, bypassing authentication protections. The issue affects Red Hat AI Base Images 3.5.5 (CUDA 12.9) and related products using these OpenSSL functions directly. However, typical OpenSSL usage via higher-level APIs and TLS protocols are not impacted. No fix is currently available from Red Hat due to mitigation challenges.
