AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated RPMs (tar-1.35-10.hum1) for affected architectures to fix this issue. Users should apply these updates to remediate the vulnerability. Until patched, it is recommended to avoid extracting archives from untrusted sources. If processing untrusted archives is necessary, perform extraction within a sandboxed environment to limit potential impact.

Description

A vulnerability (CVE-2026-5704) was found in the tar utility used in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs. It allows a remote attacker to craft malicious archives that inject hidden files with attacker-controlled content, bypassing pre-extraction inspection. This could lead to unauthorized file introduction on systems. The issue is related to CWE-434 (Unrestricted Upload of File with Dangerous Type).
