AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated RPM packages for qt5 (version 5.15.18-3.1.hum1) that address this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates as per Red Hat's advisory. Additionally, sanitizing and validating untrusted input to reject unexpected Latin-1 sequences before passing strings to String.arg() is recommended. Restricting network access to services exposing the vulnerable string formatting routines can further reduce risk.

Description

A vulnerability in Qt for MCUs was found involving an incorrect buffer size calculation during String.arg() formatting of Latin-1 encoded characters. This flaw can cause an out-of-bounds read, potentially leading to application crashes (denial of service) or limited information disclosure. The issue affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including qt5 packages. Default Red Hat process isolation limits the impact to the unprivileged process. Mitigations include sanitizing input and restricting network access to vulnerable services.
