What to do

AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated OpenSSL packages (version 3.5.8-1.hum1) for Red Hat Hardened Images that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to mitigate the issue. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the official update.

Description

A vulnerability in OpenSSL affects multi-threaded TLS clients or servers that verify certificates. Concurrent connections decoding and caching certificate extensions for a shared CA certificate can cause a use-after-free condition, leading to invalid memory reads and application crashes. Exploitation requires precise race timing and results in denial of service without compromising confidentiality or integrity. The issue is limited to multi-threaded environments during initial concurrent TLS handshakes. Red Hat has released an update for Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including OpenSSL 3.5.8-1.hum1 to address this issue.
