AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated python3.11 RPM packages (version 3.11.15-5.4.hum1) for their Hardened Images that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to mitigate the issue. No alternative mitigations or workarounds are specified in the advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in Python's Tarfile.extract() function allows local attackers to exploit improper enforcement of the filter parameter when extracting untrusted tar files containing hardlinks. This can lead to files being written with unintended user or group ownership, potentially causing unauthorized file modifications and privilege issues. The flaw affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs containing Python 3.11 packages. Red Hat has released updated RPMs to address this issue.
