AI-suggested

Red Hat has released updated nodejs26 RPM packages containing fixes for this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to remediate the issue. There is no practical workaround or mitigation other than upgrading to the fixed version when it becomes available. The vulnerability is typically introduced via transitive dependencies, making isolation difficult.

Description

A denial of service vulnerability exists in the brace-expansion npm package used by Red Hat Hardened Images. The expand() function can be exploited with specially crafted input containing consecutive non-expanding brace groups, causing exponential-time complexity and significant CPU consumption that blocks the event loop. This leads to denial of service on affected systems. The vulnerability is present in nodejs26 RPM packages. There is currently no practical mitigation other than upgrading to a fixed version when available.
