AI-suggested

A security update is available from Red Hat for the python3.10 packages included in the Hardened Images RPMs. Users should apply the updated packages (version 3.10.20-3.1.hum1) to remediate this vulnerability. Refer to Red Hat's advisory RHSA-2026:47896 for detailed update instructions. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in Python's Tarfile.extract() function allows local attackers to exploit improper enforcement of the filter parameter when extracting untrusted tar files containing hardlinks. This can cause files to be written with unintended user or group ownership, potentially leading to unauthorized file modifications or privilege escalation. The issue affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs for python3.10. A security update is available to address this flaw.
