AI-suggested

A security update is available in Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs with libXpm version 3.5.19-4.hum1. Applying this update addresses the vulnerability. No alternative mitigations are currently available or meet Red Hat's criteria for ease of use and applicability. Users should apply the provided update to remediate this issue.

Description

A local low-privileged user can exploit an out-of-bounds read vulnerability in the libXpm library's xpmNextWord() function by processing a specially crafted or very small XPM image file. This improper validation can cause an application crash, leading to denial of service. The vulnerability affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs including libXpm versions 3.5.19-4.hum1 for aarch64 and x86_64 architectures. Exploitation does not require user interaction but requires local access. The impact is limited to availability with no confidentiality or integrity compromise.
