Red Hat has released updated python3.14 RPM packages for Hardened Images that address this vulnerability. Users should apply these updates to remediate the issue. No additional mitigations or actions are indicated by the vendor advisory.

Description

A vulnerability in Python's Tarfile.extract() function allows local attackers to cause files to be written with unintended user or group ownership when extracting specially crafted tar files containing hardlinks. This can lead to unauthorized file modifications and privilege issues. Red Hat has issued an update for Hardened Images RPMs including python3.14 packages to address CVE-2026-4360.
