Red Hat has released updated binutils packages (version 2.46.1-1.2.hum1) that fix this vulnerability. Users should apply these official updates to affected Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs to remediate the issue. No additional mitigations are specified or required.

Description

A local null pointer dereference vulnerability was found in GNU Binutils affecting Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs. Exploitation requires a local user to parse a specially crafted ELF file, causing a denial of service by crashing the affected utility. The impact is limited to process termination without data exposure or system compromise. Red Hat has issued updated RPM packages to address this issue.
