Description

A heap-buffer-overflow vulnerability (CWE-125) exists in the GNU Binutils linker when processing specially crafted 32-bit XCOFF object files. This flaw can lead to out-of-bounds memory reads, potentially disclosing sensitive heap data and causing the linker to crash, resulting in denial of service. The issue affects Red Hat Hardened Images RPMs containing binutils packages. No fix is currently available, and no mitigations meet Red Hat's criteria for ease of use and applicability.
