AI-suggested

Red Hat Quay 3.9.27 includes fixes for this vulnerability and should be applied. Until patched, avoid processing tar archives from untrusted sources. When handling potentially untrusted archives, ensure extraction is performed with the least privileges necessary to limit the impact of any arbitrary file writes.

Description

CVE-2026-17106 is a vulnerability in the moby/go-archive component used by Red Hat Quay. The tar extraction routines do not properly restrict filesystem operations to the intended destination directory, allowing an attacker who controls archive contents to exploit symbolic links and write files arbitrarily outside the target directory. This can lead to unauthorized modification of system files or potential arbitrary code execution. The vulnerability affects environments processing untrusted tar archives, such as container build systems. Red Hat Quay 3.9.27 includes fixes for this issue.
