Red Hat has released updated Ruby packages that address this vulnerability. Users should apply the security update for Ruby as described in the Red Hat advisory RHSA-2026:83570 and the referenced article https://access.redhat.com/articles/11258. Applying these updates will mitigate the risk of denial of service caused by this issue.
Description
A denial of service vulnerability exists in the Ruby resolv gem due to uncontrolled memory growth triggered by crafted DNS responses. This issue is identified as CVE-2026-80212 and affects Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10.0 Extended Update Support versions. The vulnerability allows an attacker to cause a denial of service condition by exploiting the resolv gem's handling of DNS responses.
