Red Hat has released an official update for the virt:rhel and virt-devel:rhel modules that addresses CVE-2024-4418 and the related bug. Users should apply this update after ensuring all prior relevant errata are installed. Detailed update instructions are available from Red Hat's advisory. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the official patch.

Description

A low severity use-after-free vulnerability (CVE-2024-4418) was identified in the libvirt component of the virt:rhel module used for managing KVM virtual machines on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.6 Extended Update Support. This flaw involves a stack use-after-free in the virNetClientIOEventLoop function. Additionally, a bug fix addresses an issue where the 'virsh destroy --graceful' command destroyed a paused guest VM incorrectly. Red Hat has released an update to address these issues.
