Red Hat advises ensuring all previously released errata relevant to your system are applied before installing or upgrading the Zero Trust Workload Identity Manager operator. If the operator's approval policy is set to 'Automatic', upgrades will occur automatically; otherwise, manual approval is required. Refer to the Red Hat security bulletin for detailed mitigation procedures and monitor Red Hat advisories for forthcoming patches or updates.
Description
A vulnerability in Go's crypto/x509 package affects the Zero Trust Workload Identity Manager (ZTWIM) for Red Hat OpenShift. The certificate verification process fails to block trust in intermediate certificates associated with compromised Certificate Authorities, allowing remote attackers to impersonate legitimate servers. This flaw can enable man-in-the-middle attacks to intercept or alter confidential communications. The vulnerability is rated Important by Red Hat with a CVSS base score of 6.8. Exploitation requires specific network positioning and certificates from untrusted intermediates, limiting widespread abuse. The current release of ZTWIM is generally available, and no fixes have been released yet.
