Red Hat advises ensuring that all previously released errata relevant to your system are applied before installing or upgrading the Zero Trust Workload Identity Manager operator. The operator supports automatic upgrade approval by default, which will automatically upgrade to fixed versions when available. If manual approval is configured, administrators must approve the upgrade manually. Users should follow the detailed mitigation procedures in the Red Hat security bulletin and apply updates promptly once released.
Description
A vulnerability exists in the Go crypto/x509 package used by the Zero Trust Workload Identity Manager (ZTWIM) for Red Hat OpenShift. The certificate verification process does not properly block trust in intermediate certificates from compromised Certificate Authorities, allowing a remote attacker to impersonate legitimate servers. This flaw can enable man-in-the-middle attacks to intercept or alter secure communications. The vulnerability is rated Important by Red Hat and affects Go-based clients or servers relying on standard certificate verification. Exploitation requires specific network positioning and attacker-controlled certificates from untrusted intermediates. The current release of ZTWIM is generally available, and users should ensure all relevant errata are applied. The operator supports automatic or manual upgrade policies for patching.
