AI-suggested
Users should upgrade to patched Wasmtime versions: 21.0.2, 22.0.1, 23.0.3, 24.0.1, or 25.0.2. Alternatively, users can disable WebAssembly tail call support by configuring Wasmtime with `Config::wasm_tail_call(false)`. Versions prior to 21.0.0 with tail calls disabled by default are not affected unless tail calls were explicitly enabled, in which case the same mitigation applies.
Description
Wasmtime, an open source WebAssembly runtime, has a vulnerability in its implementation of WebAssembly tail calls combined with stack traces that can cause a runtime crash. This crash occurs when a WebAssembly module's exported function performs a tail call to an imported host function that captures a stack trace, triggering an internal assertion failure and a Rust panic. The crash results in a denial-of-service condition, causing the host process to abort. This issue affects versions where tail calls are enabled by default and was patched in versions 21.0.2, 22.0.1, 23.0.3, 24.0.1, and 25.0.2. Users of earlier versions with experimental tail call support enabled must disable tail calls or upgrade. The vulnerability was discovered via fuzzing and has no known exploitation in the wild.
