Since the issue stems from the insecure storage of balance data on MiFare Classic NFC cards, mitigation involves replacing or upgrading to secure card technologies with cryptographic protections. Vendors and users should avoid using MiFare Classic cards for storing sensitive financial data and consider alternative secure payment methods.
Description
Certain unattended payment solutions by KioSoft use MiFare Classic NFC cards to store account balances insecurely. Attackers can read and write the card data, identify the cash value and checksum fields, and manipulate them to load arbitrary amounts of money (up to $65,535) onto the card. This vulnerability allows unauthorized balance modification, enabling fraudulent payments.
