Technical Analysis
Netty, a network application framework, has a memory exhaustion vulnerability in its HTTP/3 codec in versions >=4.2.0.Final and <4.2.15.Final. The vulnerability allows an attacker to create an unlimited number of blocked streams, which can exhaust memory resources and lead to an OOM error. This flaw is addressed and fixed in version 4.2.15.Final.
Potential Impact
The vulnerability can cause a denial of service condition by exhausting memory resources due to the creation of infinite blocked streams. There is no impact on confidentiality or integrity reported. The CVSS score is 7.5 (medium severity) with an impact primarily on availability.
Mitigation Recommendations
Upgrade to Netty version 4.2.15.Final or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigations are specified or required as the issue is fixed in this official patch.
