Technical report: Responsible use of the Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) for ISP interworking

Source NCSC UK

Description

Technical report on best practice use of this fundamental data routing protocol.

Impact

There is no direct vulnerability or exploit described in the report. The impact is related to improving the security and resilience of BGP routing infrastructure when the guidance is implemented. Without such best practices, networks may be more susceptible to routing misconfigurations or attacks, but the report itself does not document active threats or incidents.

Defensive guidance

The report provides best practice recommendations for the responsible use of BGP to enhance network security and resilience. No specific patches or fixes are applicable. Operators and ISPs are encouraged to follow the guidance to design and operate their BGP networks securely. Since this is guidance rather than a vulnerability with a patch, no immediate remediation actions are required beyond adopting the recommended best practices.
