AI-suggested

Upgrade Apache bRPC to version 1.18.0 or apply the patch available at https://github.com/apache/brpc/pull/3536. The fix rejects zero-length response packets, preventing the null pointer dereference and client crash. No other mitigation is required as the vulnerability is addressed by this official fix.

Description

Apache bRPC's MySQL client response parser has a vulnerability where it dereferences a null pointer upon receiving a zero-payload-length response packet from the server. This causes the client process to crash, resulting in a denial of service. The issue arises because the parser reads beyond the available buffer without checking for null or zero-length packets. The vulnerability affects clients connecting to malicious or compromised MySQL servers or man-in-the-middle attackers. The issue is fixed in Apache bRPC version 1.18.0.
