Description

The User Profile Builder WordPress plugin versions before 4.0.5 contain an authorization bypass vulnerability. This flaw allows an Administrator of a Multisite subsite to edit any user's account email via the front-end Edit Profile form without proper authorization checks. Exploiting this, an attacker can change the email of a Network Super Admin account and potentially take over that account through the password reset process.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-111982 describes a vulnerability in the User Profile Builder WordPress plugin prior to version 4.0.5. The plugin fails to verify that a user is authorized to edit the specific account selected on its front-end Edit Profile form. This allows a Multisite subsite Administrator to modify any user's email address, including that of a Network Super Admin. By changing the email, the attacker can initiate a password reset and gain control over the targeted account.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Administrator privileges on a Multisite subsite can escalate privileges by taking over any user account, including the Network Super Admin. This leads to full compromise of the WordPress multisite network, with confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts rated high (CVSS 7.2).

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in User Profile Builder version 4.0.5. Users should upgrade to version 4.0.5 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No alternative mitigations are indicated.
