Description

CVE-2026-64197 is an out-of-bounds write vulnerability in measX DASYLab caused by improper validation of user-supplied data. An attacker can exploit this by convincing a user to open a specially crafted .DSB file, leading to a write past the end of an allocated data structure. This affects all versions before 2026.0.0. The vulnerability has a high severity score of 8.5 and requires user interaction for exploitation.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability in measX DASYLab (CVE-2026-64197) involves an out-of-bounds write (CWE-787) due to improper validation of user input. Specifically, when a user opens a maliciously crafted .DSB file, the software writes beyond the allocated memory buffer, potentially causing memory corruption. The issue affects all versions prior to 2026.0.0. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 8.5, indicating high severity, with attack vector local and requiring user interaction but no privileges. There are no known exploits in the wild and no vendor-provided patches or advisories currently available.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to memory corruption, which may result in application crashes or potentially arbitrary code execution depending on the context. The vulnerability requires a local attacker to trick a user into opening a crafted file, making social engineering a factor. The high CVSS score reflects the potential for significant impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a patch is available, users should avoid opening untrusted or suspicious .DSB files. Employing standard endpoint protection and user awareness can help reduce risk.
