Description

Tobit Laboratories AG TeamDavid's Webbox application contains a buffer overflow vulnerability in its file upload functionality. An unauthenticated attacker can trigger a denial of service by uploading a file with an excessively long filename. Under certain conditions, this vulnerability could be exploited for remote code execution, potentially leading to full server compromise. This issue affects TeamDavid through Rollout 524. No patch information is currently available.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in Tobit Laboratories AG TeamDavid's Webbox application arises from improper handling of file upload requests with excessively long filenames, leading to a buffer overflow (CWE-787). This can cause a server crash (denial of service). Additionally, if the stack state is favorable or if a stack canary can be disclosed via another vulnerability, the buffer overflow may be exploited for remote code execution, allowing an attacker to fully compromise the server. The affected versions include TeamDavid through Rollout 524. No known exploits are reported in the wild, and no patch or remediation details have been provided.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can cause a denial of service by crashing the server via a buffer overflow triggered by a long filename in a file upload. There is also a potential for remote code execution under certain conditions, which could lead to full server compromise.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider restricting file upload filename lengths or implementing additional input validation as a temporary mitigation.
