AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve the deadlock issue. The vendor advisory (Ubuntu USN-8029-1) confirms that this and other Linux kernel vulnerabilities have been fixed in updated kernel releases. Systems running affected versions should upgrade to the fixed kernel versions as soon as possible.
Description
A deadlock vulnerability in the Linux kernel's s390 PCI error recovery and mlx5 crdump handling has been resolved. The issue involved blocking PCI config accesses during error recovery, causing tasks to hang indefinitely. The fix changes locking behavior to avoid deadlocks by acquiring device_lock() instead of pci_dev_lock(). This vulnerability affects specific Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1049.49 through 6.8.0-1052.55 for the linux-hwe-edge product. The issue was reproducible during PCI error recovery and crdump collection on s390 architecture. A patch is available and included in recent kernel updates.
