A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The fix is included in security updates such as Ubuntu Security Notice USN-8492-1. Systems running affected kernel versions should upgrade to the fixed versions to resolve this issue. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official kernel updates.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's rtw88 WiFi driver (CVE-2025-71229) caused an alignment fault in the rtw_core_enable_beacon() function. This function read 4 bytes from an address not aligned to a 4-byte boundary, leading to crashes on some systems. The issue has been fixed by changing the code to perform 1-byte reads/writes instead. The vulnerability affects multiple Linux kernel versions prior to 6.8.0-1060.63~22.04.1 and similar builds. A patch is available as part of a broader Linux kernel security update.
