A patch is available and should be applied. The issue is fixed in Linux kernel versions 6.8.0-136.136 and later, as well as specific patched versions listed. After updating the kernel, a system reboot is required to apply the fix. No additional mitigation steps are necessary beyond applying the official kernel update.
Description
A NULL pointer dereference vulnerability (CVE-2026-22993) in the Linux kernel's idpf driver was fixed. The issue occurs after a soft reset when the RSS LUT (Receive Side Scaling Lookup Table) is freed but not restored unless the network interface is up. Accessing the RSS LUT immediately after reset via ethtool commands can cause a kernel NULL pointer dereference and crash. The fix ensures the RSS LUT is only reset when necessary based on queue count changes and user configuration.
