Technical Analysis
This vulnerability involves a use-after-free condition in the WebRTC implementation of Google Chrome versions before 152.0.7977.75. Exploitation requires user interaction via a maliciously crafted HTML page and can lead to arbitrary code execution inside the sandboxed environment of the browser. The CVSS 3.1 vector indicates the attack can be performed remotely without privileges and with low complexity, but requires user interaction. Confidentiality, integrity, and availability impacts are all rated high.
Potential Impact
Successful exploitation allows remote attackers to execute arbitrary code within the sandbox of the affected Chrome browser, potentially compromising the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the user's environment. However, exploitation requires user interaction and no active exploits have been reported to date.
Mitigation Recommendations
Users should update Google Chrome to version 152.0.7977.75 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. No additional mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory. If updating immediately is not possible, exercise caution when visiting untrusted websites, especially those that might host crafted HTML content targeting WebRTC.
