Description

Microsoft Graph is a newer API that is meant to replace several others. OK, it's at version 2.3.9, so it's not all that new, but it's new enough that lots of folks (and commercial tools) aren't using it yet. It allows you to Get and Set info from/to M365, Entra Users and Entra managed machines for starters. Let's dig in!

Technical Analysis

The article explains how Microsoft Graph API (version 2.3.9) can be used with PowerShell commands to retrieve detailed information about M365 and Entra users and their licenses. It highlights commands to list all enabled users, fetch last password change dates, and enumerate assigned licenses with human-readable SKU names. The approach enables administrators to identify stale accounts and unused licenses by exporting this data for further analysis. The report does not describe a vulnerability or active exploit but rather a method for information mining using legitimate API capabilities.

Potential Impact

There is no direct security vulnerability or exploit described. The impact is informational: administrators can use these techniques to identify inactive accounts and licenses, which can improve security posture by enabling cleanup of stale accounts and reducing unnecessary license costs. No malicious exploitation or unauthorized access is indicated.

Defensive Guidance

No remediation or patch is applicable as this is not a vulnerability but an informational technique using legitimate API features. Organizations should ensure proper access controls and monitoring around Microsoft Graph API usage to prevent unauthorized information gathering. No urgent action is required based on this report.
