Users should monitor vendor advisories for updates. Until a fix is available, avoid running the touch utility in untrusted environments or with untrusted input paths to reduce risk. Consider using alternative tools or methods for file creation that do not exhibit this race condition.

Description

The touch utility in uutils coreutils versions up to 0.8.0 contains a Time-of-Check to Time-of-Use (TOCTOU) race condition during file creation. This flaw allows an attacker to exploit a timing window between the utility checking for a file's existence and creating it, potentially causing truncation of an existing file and resulting in permanent data loss.
