AI-suggested
Upgrade uutils coreutils to version 0.8.0 or later where this logic error is fixed. Since a patch is available, applying the official fix resolves the issue. No additional mitigation is required.
Description
A logic error in the expr utility of uutils coreutils causes it to evaluate parenthesized subexpressions during parsing rather than execution, preventing proper short-circuit evaluation of logical OR and AND operations. This can cause arithmetic errors in branches that should be ignored, such as division by zero, resulting in fatal errors and premature termination of shell scripts that rely on GNU expr behavior.
